Destination & City Travel Guide

About Paris

Paris is easier to enjoy by choosing a few adjoining areas each day. The Louvre and riverbanks make one route, the Marais offers narrow streets and museums, and Montmartre is a separate hill walk. The Eiffel Tower needs time for the approach and security queue if going up. Charles de Gaulle Airport lies outside the city; the RER B enters Paris at Gare du Nord and continues to other central stations. Travellers from India should plan the airport transfer around their accommodation rather than one famous landmark.

What's new in Paris

  • June 2025: Notre-Dame began admitting organised tourist groups again, adding a bookable group-visit option after its earlier reopening to individuals.
  • October 2025: Fondation Cartier opened its new premises at Place du Palais-Royal, placing contemporary-art exhibitions opposite the Louvre rather than on Boulevard Raspail.

Tips for travellers from India

A hotel near an RER B station can simplify the Charles de Gaulle transfer, particularly around Gare du Nord or Saint-Michel. The Marais is useful for a stay focused on older streets and small museums, but may add a metro change or walk from the airport train. Choose the final district before deciding between rail and a road transfer.

The Louvre, Palais-Royal and the relocated Fondation Cartier now form a logical central art route, though separate admissions still apply. Montmartre sits on a hill north of this circuit and deserves its own walk. Notre-Dame’s individual reservations and organised group bookings are different arrangements; use the cathedral’s official booking route for the kind of visit intended. The Eiffel Tower is farther west and is best paired with its river approaches rather than inserted between Louvre galleries. At the airport, Charles de Gaulle’s Terminal 2 contains several lettered buildings, so the complete terminal designation matters when meeting a driver or following signs back to check-in.

Best time to visit Paris

By Road: Airport and city buses serve Paris; long-distance coaches use several Paris terminals.

About Mumbai

Mumbai handles a large share of India's banking, insurance, shipping and entertainment work, and its offices from Nariman Point to Bandra Kurla Complex set the pace for much of the western Indian economy. Two UNESCO World Heritage properties sit within the city: the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco ensemble around the Oval Maidan. A third, the Elephanta Caves, lies across the harbour. Visitors also come for Marine Drive, the museums of Kala Ghoda and street food at Girgaum Chowpatty.

What's new in Mumbai

  • June 2025: The final 76 km of the Samruddhi Mahamarg between Igatpuri and Amane near Thane opened on 5 June 2025, completing the 701 km expressway to Nagpur and bypassing the Kasara Ghat.
  • October 2025: The Aqua Line (Metro Line 3) opened its last section to Cuffe Parade to passengers on 9 October 2025. The fully underground line now runs from Aarey through both airport terminals, Bandra Kurla Complex, Worli and Churchgate to the southern tip of the city.
  • December 2025: Navi Mumbai International Airport began commercial flights on 25 December 2025, with IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express and Star Air among the first airlines. For travellers bound for Navi Mumbai, Panvel or the Pune road it can be closer than the Santacruz airport.

Tips for travellers

Colaba and Fort put you within walking distance of the Gateway of India, the Kala Ghoda galleries and the Oval Maidan; Bandra and Andheri are more practical when a trip is built around suburban meetings or an early flight. Suburban trains on the Western, Central and Harbour lines carry most commuters, and the UTS on Mobile app from Indian Railways sells local tickets without a queue. Avoid boarding with luggage during the morning and evening rush.

The south-west monsoon usually reaches Mumbai in June and brings heavy rain until September, which can flood low-lying roads and slow the local trains. Ganesh Chaturthi, in August or September, draws large crowds to Lalbaug and the sea front for ten days. The Elephanta Caves are closed on Mondays. Dress conservatively at Siddhivinayak Temple and at Haji Ali Dargah, and carry a scarf to cover your head at the dargah.

Best time to visit Mumbai

November to February, with days of about 17-33°C and lower humidity. June to September brings heavy monsoon rain.

How to reach Mumbai

By Air: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) spans Santacruz and Sahar, about 25 km north of Colaba; allow 60-90 minutes by road to south Mumbai at busy times. The Aqua Line metro has stations at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and prepaid taxis and app cabs operate from both terminals.

By Rail: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai Central, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Bandra Terminus handle long-distance trains. Vande Bharat trains run to Madgaon in Goa and to Gandhinagar via Ahmedabad, and the Rajdhani links Mumbai Central with New Delhi.

By Road: The Mumbai-Pune Expressway leads to Pune and the Samruddhi Mahamarg to Nashik and Nagpur. MSRTC and private coaches run to Pune, Goa and Gujarat from Dadar, Borivali and Mumbai Central.

Spend a morning in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya and the galleries of Kala Ghoda.
Watch the sunset from Marine Drive and eat bhel puri at Girgaum Chowpatty.
Look down on the Dhobi Ghat open-air laundry from the bridge at Mahalaxmi station.
Hike to the Kanheri Caves inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Mumbai airport information

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM). Terminal 2 at Sahar handles all international flights and Air India's domestic network, while Terminal 1 at Santacruz serves low-cost domestic carriers. Some airlines changed terminals during 2026, and the two buildings are a 15-20 minute drive apart, so confirm the terminal before setting out.
