Cairo takes more than a single monument stop. The Egyptian Museum stands near Tahrir Square, while Coptic Cairo has churches and a museum within a compact historic area. Islamic Cairo brings bazaars and mosques into another part of the city. The Giza pyramids lie across the metropolitan area and need their own travel window. Indian visitors should plan around traffic rather than distance alone. Cairo International Airport is northeast of the centre, and a licensed transfer can simplify the first arrival.
Tahrir is useful for the Egyptian Museum and central Cairo, while a Giza stay favours the pyramids and Grand Egyptian Museum. These are different sightseeing bases across the metropolitan area. Zamalek provides another island neighbourhood option, but still requires road transfers to the major archaeological sites. Choose the museum by its full name when arranging a car: the Egyptian Museum at Tahrir and the Grand Egyptian Museum near Giza are separate institutions.
The Grand Egyptian Museum’s inauguration took place in November 2025, adding a major collection destination near the pyramids. A Giza day can focus on that area rather than crossing back to Tahrir between visits. Coptic Cairo forms another compact heritage cluster, while Khan el-Khalili and nearby Islamic monuments belong to a different district. Cairo Airport is northeast of these sightseeing areas, so the first transfer may be much longer to Giza than to an eastern hotel. Its terminal allocation follows the operating airline rather than whether a ticket was bought through a partner. The airport publishes an airline directory for checking the actual departure building. A brief stay works better with one Giza day and one central or old-city day than with repeated river crossings. Each museum has its own admission arrangements, even when an excursion combines several archaeological stops.
November to March, roughly 10–23°C, for outdoor archaeological visits.

Mumbai handles a large share of India's banking, insurance, shipping and entertainment work, and its offices from Nariman Point to Bandra Kurla Complex set the pace for much of the western Indian economy. Two UNESCO World Heritage properties sit within the city: the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco ensemble around the Oval Maidan. A third, the Elephanta Caves, lies across the harbour. Visitors also come for Marine Drive, the museums of Kala Ghoda and street food at Girgaum Chowpatty.
Colaba and Fort put you within walking distance of the Gateway of India, the Kala Ghoda galleries and the Oval Maidan; Bandra and Andheri are more practical when a trip is built around suburban meetings or an early flight. Suburban trains on the Western, Central and Harbour lines carry most commuters, and the UTS on Mobile app from Indian Railways sells local tickets without a queue. Avoid boarding with luggage during the morning and evening rush.
The south-west monsoon usually reaches Mumbai in June and brings heavy rain until September, which can flood low-lying roads and slow the local trains. Ganesh Chaturthi, in August or September, draws large crowds to Lalbaug and the sea front for ten days. The Elephanta Caves are closed on Mondays. Dress conservatively at Siddhivinayak Temple and at Haji Ali Dargah, and carry a scarf to cover your head at the dargah.
November to February, with days of about 17-33°C and lower humidity. June to September brings heavy monsoon rain.
By Air: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) spans Santacruz and Sahar, about 25 km north of Colaba; allow 60-90 minutes by road to south Mumbai at busy times. The Aqua Line metro has stations at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and prepaid taxis and app cabs operate from both terminals.
By Rail: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai Central, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Bandra Terminus handle long-distance trains. Vande Bharat trains run to Madgaon in Goa and to Gandhinagar via Ahmedabad, and the Rajdhani links Mumbai Central with New Delhi.
By Road: The Mumbai-Pune Expressway leads to Pune and the Samruddhi Mahamarg to Nashik and Nagpur. MSRTC and private coaches run to Pune, Goa and Gujarat from Dadar, Borivali and Mumbai Central.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM). Terminal 2 at Sahar handles all international flights and Air India's domestic network, while Terminal 1 at Santacruz serves low-cost domestic carriers. Some airlines changed terminals during 2026, and the two buildings are a 15-20 minute drive apart, so confirm the terminal before setting out.
