Dhaka needs a realistic plan for road travel. Old Dhaka holds Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil and lanes with food and craft shops, while the National Parliament complex lies in a different part of the capital. The Buriganga still shapes the southern riverfront. Travellers from India can spend a day in one district rather than losing hours crossing between distant stops. Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is north of the older centre, and road traffic makes a fixed arrival appointment risky.
Gulshan and Banani are practical bases for meetings in northern Dhaka, but they do not put the old-city monuments nearby. A sightseeing day around Ahsan Manzil, the Buriganga and Lalbagh Fort should therefore start from a realistic road plan. These southern stops belong together; the National Parliament complex is better scheduled separately. A hotel’s district is more useful to an airport driver than a generic reference to central Dhaka, which covers a large and congested area.
The airport’s shuttle-bus information describes a connection to nearby transport points, not a direct sightseeing circuit through Old Dhaka. Match its stopping point with the next leg before relying on it with luggage. In September 2026, international flights still used Terminals 1 and 2 while the new Terminal 3 awaited its opening, so give an airport driver the terminal printed on the booking rather than assuming the newest building. Around Ahsan Manzil, a riverfront visit gives context to the Buriganga’s working role; Lalbagh Fort provides a different enclosed heritage setting. A boat outing and a fort visit also need separate arrangements. If the trip is mainly business in Gulshan, reserve an uninterrupted block for Old Dhaka rather than squeezing it between appointments on opposite sides of the capital.
November to February, about 14–28°C, for city walks.
By Air: Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) is about 15–20 km north of Old Dhaka; allow at least 45–90 minutes by road, depending on traffic. Taxis, arranged cars and airport shuttle buses are available.

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC). Terminals 1 and 2 share the international terminal building, while a separate domestic terminal handles flights within Bangladesh. International arrivals use the ground floor and departures the second floor.
New Delhi is the seat of India's central government, and the metropolis around it runs on public administration, services, retail and the corporate offices of Gurugram and Noida. Three UNESCO World Heritage Sites lie within the city: the Red Fort complex, the Qutb Minar and its monuments, and Humayun's Tomb. Visitors come for those sites, for the food lanes of Old Delhi and for trade fairs at Pragati Maidan, and many use Delhi as the first stop before Agra, Jaipur or the hills of Himachal and Uttarakhand.
For a two or three day stay, Connaught Place, Paharganj and Karol Bagh sit on the Blue and Yellow metro lines, while Aerocity suits early departures because it is next to the airport. The Delhi Metro is the quickest way across the city, and a smart card or a QR ticket bought on a phone saves time at the counters. October to March is the main sightseeing season, though smog can be heavy in November, and Diwali week fills hotels and trains. May and June are extremely hot.
The Red Fort is closed on Mondays. At Jama Masjid and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, remove your shoes and cover your shoulders and legs; the gurudwara also asks everyone to cover their head and lends scarves at the entrance. Swaminarayan Akshardham does not allow phones or cameras inside, so leave them in the cloakroom or at the hotel.
October to March, with days of about 7-30°C; November can bring heavy smog. April to June often passes 40°C.
By Air: Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is about 16 km south-west of Connaught Place; allow 40-60 minutes by road, more at peak hours. The Airport Express metro line links Terminal 3 with New Delhi station, the Magenta Line serves Terminal 1, and prepaid taxis and app cabs run from all terminals.
By Rail: New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Old Delhi and Anand Vihar Terminal are the main stations. Vande Bharat trains run to Varanasi, Amritsar and Katra, and Rajdhani services link the city with Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
By Road: NH 44 runs north to Punjab and Kashmir, the Yamuna Expressway reaches Agra, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is open in sections to the south-west. State and private buses leave from the Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan bus terminals.
