Raipur became the capital of Chhattisgarh when the state was carved out of Madhya Pradesh in 2000, and the government has since built the planned administrative city of Nava Raipur Atal Nagar to its south-east. The region's coal, iron ore and limestone feed steel plants, sponge iron units and cement works around Raipur and neighbouring Bhilai. Visitors come for business, for the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum, and as the starting point for Bastar, the Buddhist ruins at Sirpur and the Chitrakote waterfall.
Hotels along GE Road, around Telibandha and near the railway station suit a short stay, and Nava Raipur has newer business hotels closer to the airport. There is no metro; app cabs, auto-rickshaws and city buses cover most trips. In November 2025 the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum opened in Nava Raipur, a digital museum with galleries on 14 tribal revolts, and it pairs well with the older Purkhauti Muktangan open-air museum nearby, which shows village houses and crafts from across the state. Budha Talab in the old city is the place for an evening walk.
November to February is the pleasant season. April to June is very hot, and the monsoon from late June to September brings heavy rain but also the fullest flow at Chitrakote, near Jagdalpur about 300 km south. Bastar Dussehra, which runs for about 75 days around September and October in Jagdalpur, is one of the most distinctive festivals in central India. Some interior parts of Bastar have security restrictions, so check local advice before driving off the main highways. Sirpur, about 80 km east, makes a good day trip for its brick temple and monastery ruins.

New Delhi is the seat of India's central government, and the metropolis around it runs on public administration, services, retail and the corporate offices of Gurugram and Noida. Three UNESCO World Heritage Sites lie within the city: the Red Fort complex, the Qutb Minar and its monuments, and Humayun's Tomb. Visitors come for those sites, for the food lanes of Old Delhi and for trade fairs at Pragati Maidan, and many use Delhi as the first stop before Agra, Jaipur or the hills of Himachal and Uttarakhand.
For a two or three day stay, Connaught Place, Paharganj and Karol Bagh sit on the Blue and Yellow metro lines, while Aerocity suits early departures because it is next to the airport. The Delhi Metro is the quickest way across the city, and a smart card or a QR ticket bought on a phone saves time at the counters. October to March is the main sightseeing season, though smog can be heavy in November, and Diwali week fills hotels and trains. May and June are extremely hot.
The Red Fort is closed on Mondays. At Jama Masjid and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, remove your shoes and cover your shoulders and legs; the gurudwara also asks everyone to cover their head and lends scarves at the entrance. Swaminarayan Akshardham does not allow phones or cameras inside, so leave them in the cloakroom or at the hotel.
