Mauritius offers several different bases, from the capital’s market streets to coastal resort areas and the southeast near the airport. Port Louis brings together the Central Market, waterfront and Aapravasi Ghat, while botanical gardens and volcanic landscapes require separate road outings. Travellers arriving at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport should choose the part of the island they want to explore before arranging a transfer, because a beach hotel may be far from the capital.
For a brief visit centred on Port Louis, accommodation near the capital avoids repeated drives from a distant beach resort. A southeast stay instead places the airport and Mahébourg area closer, but makes the northern botanical gardens a longer excursion. Grand Baie and the western coast represent other distinct bases. Decide which coast matters before comparing transfer quotes; an airport-to-Port Louis distance does not describe every hotel on the island.
Aapravasi Ghat is a former immigration depot in Port Louis and provides context for the history of indentured labour. Admission is free, but the site closes on Sundays and public holidays and has shorter Saturday hours. It therefore belongs in a weekday capital itinerary rather than an unplanned Sunday stop. Guided visits can be arranged in advance through the site. The Central Market and waterfront fit the same Port Louis day, whereas the botanical gardens at Pamplemousses need another road leg. A volcanic-landscape outing towards the southwest is different again and should not be squeezed between capital museums. If flying out early, a final night near the southeast can reduce the cross-island transfer, especially after a stay on the north or west coast. The airport hotel choice and the main holiday base need not be identical.
May to November, around 18–27°C, for milder and generally drier conditions.
By Air: Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) is about 48 km southeast of Port Louis; allow around 60–75 minutes by road. Taxis, buses and prearranged transfers serve the island.
By Road: Public buses and the Metro Express serve some urban corridors; taxis and hired cars reach coastal areas.

New Delhi is the seat of India's central government, and the metropolis around it runs on public administration, services, retail and the corporate offices of Gurugram and Noida. Three UNESCO World Heritage Sites lie within the city: the Red Fort complex, the Qutb Minar and its monuments, and Humayun's Tomb. Visitors come for those sites, for the food lanes of Old Delhi and for trade fairs at Pragati Maidan, and many use Delhi as the first stop before Agra, Jaipur or the hills of Himachal and Uttarakhand.
For a two or three day stay, Connaught Place, Paharganj and Karol Bagh sit on the Blue and Yellow metro lines, while Aerocity suits early departures because it is next to the airport. The Delhi Metro is the quickest way across the city, and a smart card or a QR ticket bought on a phone saves time at the counters. October to March is the main sightseeing season, though smog can be heavy in November, and Diwali week fills hotels and trains. May and June are extremely hot.
The Red Fort is closed on Mondays. At Jama Masjid and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, remove your shoes and cover your shoulders and legs; the gurudwara also asks everyone to cover their head and lends scarves at the entrance. Swaminarayan Akshardham does not allow phones or cameras inside, so leave them in the cloakroom or at the hotel.
October to March, with days of about 7-30°C; November can bring heavy smog. April to June often passes 40°C.
By Air: Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is about 16 km south-west of Connaught Place; allow 40-60 minutes by road, more at peak hours. The Airport Express metro line links Terminal 3 with New Delhi station, the Magenta Line serves Terminal 1, and prepaid taxis and app cabs run from all terminals.
By Rail: New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Old Delhi and Anand Vihar Terminal are the main stations. Vande Bharat trains run to Varanasi, Amritsar and Katra, and Rajdhani services link the city with Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
By Road: NH 44 runs north to Punjab and Kashmir, the Yamuna Expressway reaches Agra, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is open in sections to the south-west. State and private buses leave from the Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan bus terminals.
