Dibrugarh is known as the tea city of India, and its district is ringed by estates that have produced Assam tea since the 19th century. Oil India Limited has its headquarters at nearby Duliajan, and the Bogibeel bridge, India's longest rail-cum-road bridge at about 4.9 km, links the city across the Brahmaputra to Dhemaji and Arunachal Pradesh. Visitors come for tea-garden stays and factory visits, river views, the Ahom-era monuments of Sivasagar and the birdlife of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.
Hotels in the town centre and near the railway station suit a short stay, but many visitors choose a restored planter's bungalow on a working tea estate. Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws cover the town, and a hired car is the practical choice for the tea gardens, Sivasagar and Tinsukia. In June 2025 the Assam Assembly passed a resolution to rename the airport after the singer and composer Bhupen Hazarika. Tea estates are working farms and usually take visitors only by arrangement, so book factory tours through your hotel or the estate; plucking and processing are most active from spring to autumn.
October to April is the best season, with cool, dry days, and the first flush of tea is plucked from March. The monsoon, from May to September, brings heavy rain and floods along the Brahmaputra, and Dibru-Saikhowa is hard to reach then. Rongali Bihu in mid-April is the main festival, with dancing and feasts across the district. Indian visitors crossing into Arunachal Pradesh need an Inner Line Permit, and foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit, so apply before driving north over the Bogibeel bridge. Sivasagar, about 80 km south-west, needs most of a day for its tanks, temples and Ahom palaces.
October to April, with days of about 10-27°C. May to September brings heavy monsoon rain and river floods.
By Air: Dibrugarh Airport (DIB) at Mohanbari is about 15 km east of the city; allow 30-40 minutes by road. Taxis meet flights, and hotels and tea resorts often arrange transfers.
By Rail: Dibrugarh station is the eastern terminus for long-distance trains. The Rajdhani runs to New Delhi, and the Vivek Express to Kanyakumari covers one of the longest train routes in India.
By Road: The national highway runs west to Sivasagar and Jorhat, and the Bogibeel bridge carries road traffic north towards Arunachal Pradesh. ASTC and private buses serve Guwahati, Tinsukia and Itanagar.

New Delhi is the seat of India's central government, and the metropolis around it runs on public administration, services, retail and the corporate offices of Gurugram and Noida. Three UNESCO World Heritage Sites lie within the city: the Red Fort complex, the Qutb Minar and its monuments, and Humayun's Tomb. Visitors come for those sites, for the food lanes of Old Delhi and for trade fairs at Pragati Maidan, and many use Delhi as the first stop before Agra, Jaipur or the hills of Himachal and Uttarakhand.
For a two or three day stay, Connaught Place, Paharganj and Karol Bagh sit on the Blue and Yellow metro lines, while Aerocity suits early departures because it is next to the airport. The Delhi Metro is the quickest way across the city, and a smart card or a QR ticket bought on a phone saves time at the counters. October to March is the main sightseeing season, though smog can be heavy in November, and Diwali week fills hotels and trains. May and June are extremely hot.
The Red Fort is closed on Mondays. At Jama Masjid and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, remove your shoes and cover your shoulders and legs; the gurudwara also asks everyone to cover their head and lends scarves at the entrance. Swaminarayan Akshardham does not allow phones or cameras inside, so leave them in the cloakroom or at the hotel.
October to March, with days of about 7-30°C; November can bring heavy smog. April to June often passes 40°C.
