Birmingham’s centre combines civic squares with canal paths and former industrial districts. The Library of Birmingham overlooks Centenary Square, and the Jewellery Quarter preserves workshops connected to the city’s metalworking past. A walk along Gas Street Basin gives a different view of the centre. Travellers from India often come for family or university links, so the city can be a base for wider Midlands visits. Birmingham Airport connects to an adjacent rail station by a short Air-Rail Link.
Stay near New Street for rail connections and central shopping, or near Centenary Square for the library, galleries and canal approaches. The Jewellery Quarter is a distinct neighbourhood with its own workshop heritage, rather than another name for the retail centre. Gas Street Basin works as the outdoor link in a central day after an indoor museum visit.
At the airport, take the Air-Rail Link to Birmingham International station before boarding a train towards Birmingham New Street. Birmingham International and New Street are different stations, and an airport-area hotel does not put the city centre outside the door. The National Exhibition Centre is beside the airport district, so exhibition visitors may prefer that base. Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery’s reopened collections can anchor a day around the civic squares, followed by the library and canals. A Jewellery Quarter visit is easier as a separate walk with time for the workshop streets. For a family visit elsewhere in the Midlands, check the onward station before committing to a central hotel.
May to September, about 10–22°C, for canalside walks.
By Air: Birmingham Airport (BHX) is about 16 km from the centre; Air-Rail Link plus a direct train reaches Birmingham New Street in roughly 15–20 minutes. Buses and taxis also serve the airport.
By Rail: Birmingham New Street is the main hub; Birmingham International is linked to the airport terminal.
By Road: Local buses and the motorway network connect the airport and city; coaches use Birmingham Coach Station.

New Delhi is the seat of India's central government, and the metropolis around it runs on public administration, services, retail and the corporate offices of Gurugram and Noida. Three UNESCO World Heritage Sites lie within the city: the Red Fort complex, the Qutb Minar and its monuments, and Humayun's Tomb. Visitors come for those sites, for the food lanes of Old Delhi and for trade fairs at Pragati Maidan, and many use Delhi as the first stop before Agra, Jaipur or the hills of Himachal and Uttarakhand.
For a two or three day stay, Connaught Place, Paharganj and Karol Bagh sit on the Blue and Yellow metro lines, while Aerocity suits early departures because it is next to the airport. The Delhi Metro is the quickest way across the city, and a smart card or a QR ticket bought on a phone saves time at the counters. October to March is the main sightseeing season, though smog can be heavy in November, and Diwali week fills hotels and trains. May and June are extremely hot.
The Red Fort is closed on Mondays. At Jama Masjid and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, remove your shoes and cover your shoulders and legs; the gurudwara also asks everyone to cover their head and lends scarves at the entrance. Swaminarayan Akshardham does not allow phones or cameras inside, so leave them in the cloakroom or at the hotel.
October to March, with days of about 7-30°C; November can bring heavy smog. April to June often passes 40°C.
By Air: Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is about 16 km south-west of Connaught Place; allow 40-60 minutes by road, more at peak hours. The Airport Express metro line links Terminal 3 with New Delhi station, the Magenta Line serves Terminal 1, and prepaid taxis and app cabs run from all terminals.
By Rail: New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Old Delhi and Anand Vihar Terminal are the main stations. Vande Bharat trains run to Varanasi, Amritsar and Katra, and Rajdhani services link the city with Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
By Road: NH 44 runs north to Punjab and Kashmir, the Yamuna Expressway reaches Agra, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is open in sections to the south-west. State and private buses leave from the Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan bus terminals.
