Jaipur was laid out in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II on a grid of wide streets and bazaars, and the walled city was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019. The same ruler built the Jantar Mantar observatory, which is a separate UNESCO site. Tourism, gems and jewellery, block-printed textiles and handicraft exports drive the economy. Visitors come for Amber Fort, the City Palace and Hawa Mahal, shopping in Johari and Bapu bazaars, and the Jaipur Literature Festival each January.
For a short trip, hotels in or near the walled city, around MI Road and C-Scheme, keep the main sights within a short taxi ride; Amber is about 11 km north. Jaipur Metro runs a single line from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar in the old city, and app cabs and auto-rickshaws cover the rest. A composite ticket from the state archaeology department covers Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Albert Hall, Nahargarh and other monuments over two days, which saves queuing at each gate.
October to March is the main season. December and January nights can fall to about 5°C, and April to June is very hot. The Jaipur Literature Festival in late January and Diwali, when the bazaars are lit, fill hotels quickly. Teej in July or August and Gangaur in March or April bring processions through the old city. Amber Fort opens early in the morning, and arriving at opening time avoids both the heat and the tour groups. Remove footwear at the Govind Dev Ji Temple in the City Palace complex and at Galta Ji, and dress modestly at both. Carry cash for small purchases in the old bazaars, where some shops still prefer it.
October to March, with days of about 20-30°C and cool nights. April to June often exceeds 40°C.
By Air: Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is at Sanganer, about 10 km south of the city centre; allow 25-40 minutes by road. Prepaid taxis, app cabs and auto-rickshaws serve both terminals.
By Rail: Jaipur Junction is the main station, with Gandhinagar Jaipur and Durgapura used by some trains. Vande Bharat trains run to Delhi Cantonment and Udaipur, and the Ajmer Shatabdi connects with New Delhi.
By Road: NH 48 runs north-east to Delhi and south-west to Ajmer. RSRTC buses leave from the Sindhi Camp bus stand for most towns in Rajasthan and for Delhi.
Reach Amber Fort at opening time and walk up the ramparts from Maota Lake.
See the giant sundial and instruments of Jantar Mantar beside the City Palace.
Watch the sunset over the old city from Nahargarh Fort.
Shop for block-printed textiles in Bapu Bazaar and silver in Johari Bazaar.
Visit the temple tanks of Galta Ji in the hills east of the city.

Abu Dhabi spreads its main sights across the Corniche, Saadiyat Island and the district around Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Louvre Abu Dhabi gives an art-focused half day, while Qasr Al Watan explains the setting of a working presidential palace. These places are too far apart for a continuous walk, so a planned bus or taxi route saves time. Travellers from India arriving at Zayed International Airport can begin with a single district and leave the longer crossing for another day.
A Corniche hotel suits waterfront walks and the central island, whereas Saadiyat accommodation makes the museum district easier to reach. Yas Island is a different choice, geared towards its parks and entertainment venues. The airport is on the mainland, so the transfer to each area follows a different route; name the island as well as the hotel when arranging a pickup.
Build one day around Saadiyat instead of alternating its museums with Qasr Al Watan at the western end of Abu Dhabi island. Louvre Abu Dhabi’s galleries and outdoor dome spaces reward different pacing, especially when combining it with another museum. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque also belongs in its own part of the schedule because it is away from both clusters. Qasr Al Watan is within a working presidential compound, making its official visitor calendar particularly relevant when selecting a ticket. The Corniche is the flexible walking component between these scheduled visits, while airport bus timetables help determine whether a central bus stop is useful for the final hotel connection.
November to March, about 18–29°C, for the Corniche and open-air sites.
By Air: Zayed International Airport (AUH) is about 30 km from central Abu Dhabi; allow roughly 30–40 minutes by road. City buses, official taxis and app-based cars serve arrivals.
By Road: Abu Dhabi city buses serve the centre; intercity coaches link Abu Dhabi with Dubai and other emirates.
