Destination & City Travel Guide
About Frankfurt
Frankfurt can be seen in a compact central circuit despite its role as a major air hub. Römerberg anchors the old town, the Museum Embankment runs along the Main, and the Städel Museum merits time indoors. Palmengarten is a separate green stop. Frankfurt Airport has both local and long-distance rail stations, so travellers from India can reach the central station quickly or continue directly to another German city without entering the centre first.

What's new in Frankfurt
- April 2026: Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3 began operations, receiving airlines transferred from Terminal 2 and changing the departure building for those passengers.
- April 2026: The new Sky Line connection accompanied Terminal 3’s launch, linking it with the northern terminals and the airport railway stations.
Tips for travellers from India
A stay near Hauptbahnhof is useful for onward rail travel, while the old town suits a short visit centred on Römerberg and the river. The airport has separate regional and long-distance railway stations: local S-Bahn trains into Frankfurt and intercity trains do not necessarily use the same platforms. Read the service type before following a railway sign, particularly when connecting directly to another German city.
Terminal 3 is on the airport’s southern side. The new Sky Line takes about eight minutes between Terminals 1 and 3, so a rail arrival still needs a terminal transfer for a flight departing there. In town, link Römerberg with a crossing of the Main and the Museum Embankment. The Städel is a substantial collection visit, while Palmengarten is a separate botanical-garden outing away from that river circuit. A short connection is better spent in one central cluster than split between the river museums and Palmengarten. Use the actual flight terminal for the return, since older Terminal 2 directions may be obsolete.
Best time to visit Frankfurt
May to September, roughly 12–25°C, for river walks and gardens.

About Birmingham
Birmingham’s centre combines civic squares with canal paths and former industrial districts. The Library of Birmingham overlooks Centenary Square, and the Jewellery Quarter preserves workshops connected to the city’s metalworking past. A walk along Gas Street Basin gives a different view of the centre. Travellers from India often come for family or university links, so the city can be a base for wider Midlands visits. Birmingham Airport connects to an adjacent rail station by a short Air-Rail Link.

What's new in Birmingham
- May 2025: Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery reopened its refurbished history galleries, restoring more space for exploring the city’s past.
- October 2025: Pre-Raphaelite works and the Staffordshire Hoard returned to public display at the museum, expanding the collections available on a central visit.
Tips for travellers from India
Stay near New Street for rail connections and central shopping, or near Centenary Square for the library, galleries and canal approaches. The Jewellery Quarter is a distinct neighbourhood with its own workshop heritage, rather than another name for the retail centre. Gas Street Basin works as the outdoor link in a central day after an indoor museum visit.
At the airport, take the Air-Rail Link to Birmingham International station before boarding a train towards Birmingham New Street. Birmingham International and New Street are different stations, and an airport-area hotel does not put the city centre outside the door. The National Exhibition Centre is beside the airport district, so exhibition visitors may prefer that base. Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery’s reopened collections can anchor a day around the civic squares, followed by the library and canals. A Jewellery Quarter visit is easier as a separate walk with time for the workshop streets. For a family visit elsewhere in the Midlands, check the onward station before committing to a central hotel.
Best time to visit Birmingham
May to September, about 10–22°C, for canalside walks.
