Chittagong lies between the Karnaphuli River, coastal Patenga and rising inland neighbourhoods. Foy’s Lake offers a slower outing, while the War Cemetery is a place for a quiet visit. The city is an important port and commercial centre, so many travellers from India arrive for work or family rather than a conventional sightseeing break. Shah Amanat International Airport sits at Patenga, south of the railway station; road congestion can make the short map distance feel much longer.
Patenga suits an airport-side stop and a coastal walk, while a central Chattogram stay is more useful for the railway station and city appointments. A hotel near Foy’s Lake serves another part of the urban area. Decide which district will occupy most of the visit before arranging airport transport, since the Karnaphuli waterfront and inland neighbourhoods do not form one compact pedestrian centre.
The War Cemetery is a memorial visit and fits a quieter route than the recreational setting of Foy’s Lake. Treat them as separate stops with different purposes rather than a single park outing. Patenga is closer to the airport approaches, making it a possible final coastal stop only when the road transfer back is clearly arranged. A trip towards the hill districts requires its own access and transport planning; it is not simply a continuation of a Chattogram city drive. For onward rail travel, identify Chattogram station in the booking and leave luggage at the hotel before exploring crowded central streets. The Ethnological Museum provides an indoor alternative to the waterfront, while Batali Hill introduces a climb and a different view of the city. A two-part itinerary, central museums on one day and Patenga on another, can reduce repeated drives through the port-side road network.
November to February, around 16–28°C, for comparatively drier outings.

Kolkata was the capital of British India until 1911, and its port, jute trade and publishing houses made it the commercial centre of the east. It opened the country's first metro in 1984, and College Street remains one of the largest second-hand book markets in India. Visitors come for the Victoria Memorial, the ghats along the Hooghly, Bengali sweets and fish, and above all for Durga Puja in autumn, which UNESCO added to its intangible cultural heritage list in 2021.
Park Street and the streets around Esplanade suit a short trip, with New Market, the Maidan and the Victoria Memorial close by; Salt Lake and New Town are nearer the airport and the IT offices. The Blue Line metro is the fastest way north and south, and the Green Line now crosses the river to Howrah. Yellow Ambassador taxis still run on the meter alongside app cabs.
November to February brings dry, mild days. Durga Puja falls in September or October; during the five main days, roads near the large pandals close to traffic, hotel rates rise and flights fill early. Kali Puja and Diwali follow a few weeks later. Heavy monsoon showers from June to September can leave streets waterlogged. The Victoria Memorial museum is closed on Mondays. Expect long queues at Kalighat and Dakshineswar on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and leave footwear at the counters outside.
November to February, with days of about 12-27°C and little rain. The monsoon runs from June to September.
By Air: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) is at Dum Dum, about 16 km from Dalhousie Square; allow 45-75 minutes by road. The Yellow Line metro stops at Jai Hind (Biman Bandar) station, and WBTC air-conditioned buses, prepaid yellow taxis and app cabs serve the terminal.
By Rail: Howrah and Sealdah are the main terminals, with Shalimar and Kolkata (Chitpur) handling some long-distance trains. Rajdhani services run to New Delhi, and the Vande Bharat sleeper links Howrah with Guwahati.
By Road: NH 19 runs north-west towards Durgapur and Delhi, and NH 16 south to Odisha. State and private buses leave from the Esplanade bus terminus for Digha, Siliguri and other destinations.
