Brussels can be read through its squares and museums. Grand-Place sits at the centre of the older streets; the Magritte Museum and other Royal Museums lie around Place Royale; and the Atomium requires a separate trip north. The European Quarter adds another reason for work travel from India. Brussels Airport is close enough that a direct train to Brussels-Central can make a short stay practical, while the same station network opens routes to other Belgian cities.
Brussels-Central is useful for Grand-Place and the older city streets, while the European Quarter suits meetings around the EU institutions. A hotel near Brussels-Midi serves a different purpose, particularly for an onward international train. Airport trains call at several Brussels stations, so leaving at the first city stop may not be the most convenient choice. Match the station name to the hotel rather than treating North, Central and Midi as one interchange.
The Magritte Museum and Royal Museums around Place Royale belong to an uphill arts district above the lower old town. Pair them with that area’s squares, then descend towards Grand-Place instead of repeatedly climbing between the two. The Atomium is outside the central walking circuit and needs a separate public-transport outing. Brussels Airport and Brussels South Charleroi Airport are also different airports; a ticket mentioning Charleroi requires another transfer plan altogether. The airport rail connection serves the main Brussels Airport at Zaventem. For a museum-focused stay, combine collections in one district rather than trying to add the Atomium after every gallery. The Belgian Comic Strip Center occupies a Victor Horta building on Rue des Sables, a short walk from Grand-Place and Brussels-Central. The historic centre still supplies enough squares, arcades and museums for a compact first day.
May to September, roughly 11–23°C, for squares and outdoor walks.
By Air: Brussels Airport (BRU) is about 12 km from the centre; trains reach Brussels-Central in around 18 minutes. Buses and taxis also serve the terminal.
By Rail: Brussels-Central, Brussels-North and Brussels-South have direct airport trains and national connections.
By Road: STIB bus 12 links the airport with the European Quarter; intercity coaches and taxis serve the city.

Birmingham’s centre combines civic squares with canal paths and former industrial districts. The Library of Birmingham overlooks Centenary Square, and the Jewellery Quarter preserves workshops connected to the city’s metalworking past. A walk along Gas Street Basin gives a different view of the centre. Travellers from India often come for family or university links, so the city can be a base for wider Midlands visits. Birmingham Airport connects to an adjacent rail station by a short Air-Rail Link.
Stay near New Street for rail connections and central shopping, or near Centenary Square for the library, galleries and canal approaches. The Jewellery Quarter is a distinct neighbourhood with its own workshop heritage, rather than another name for the retail centre. Gas Street Basin works as the outdoor link in a central day after an indoor museum visit.
At the airport, take the Air-Rail Link to Birmingham International station before boarding a train towards Birmingham New Street. Birmingham International and New Street are different stations, and an airport-area hotel does not put the city centre outside the door. The National Exhibition Centre is beside the airport district, so exhibition visitors may prefer that base. Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery’s reopened collections can anchor a day around the civic squares, followed by the library and canals. A Jewellery Quarter visit is easier as a separate walk with time for the workshop streets. For a family visit elsewhere in the Midlands, check the onward station before committing to a central hotel.
May to September, about 10–22°C, for canalside walks.
By Air: Birmingham Airport (BHX) is about 16 km from the centre; Air-Rail Link plus a direct train reaches Birmingham New Street in roughly 15–20 minutes. Buses and taxis also serve the airport.
By Rail: Birmingham New Street is the main hub; Birmingham International is linked to the airport terminal.
By Road: Local buses and the motorway network connect the airport and city; coaches use Birmingham Coach Station.
