Destination & City Travel Guide

About Seoul

Seoul rewards a district-by-district plan. Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon frame a day around older streets, while Myeongdong and Hongdae show different sides of its shopping and café culture. The Han River provides walking and cycling space between built-up neighbourhoods. Incheon International Airport lies west of the city on an island; its rail link makes Seoul Station a useful first point for many visitors arriving from India. Check the final metro connection before choosing a late arrival.

What's new in Seoul

  • May 2025: Photography Seoul Museum of Art opened, adding a dedicated photography venue to the city’s museum choices.
  • January 2026: Asiana Airlines moved from Incheon Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, changing the airport building and rail stop used by its passengers.

Tips for travellers from India

Hongdae is useful for an airport-rail arrival and an evening in its surrounding streets, while Myeongdong puts central shopping closer. A palace-focused stay can favour the Jongno area instead. The Airport Railroad’s express and stopping trains serve different purposes: the express links the airport with Seoul Station, while stopping services reach additional interchanges. Choose according to the hotel district.

Asiana moved to Terminal 2 on 14 January 2026, so older guides that send its passengers to Terminal 1 are out of date. Incheon’s official app and flight information identify the correct terminal before a return train ride. Gyeongbokgung and Bukchon belong together geographically, but Bukchon includes residential lanes and should be approached as a lived-in neighbourhood. Hongdae is a separate western outing rather than the next stop on a palace walk. The Han River also has many access points; select a particular riverside park instead of navigating to the river in general. That choice determines the useful metro station and prevents an unnecessary crossing of Seoul.

About Chicago

Chicago’s downtown Loop puts Millennium Park, the Art Institute and the Riverwalk within a manageable area. The lakefront creates a second axis for walking, while neighbourhoods farther out need transit time of their own. Passengers landing at O’Hare may be changing flights or visiting relatives in the wider region, so check whether an overnight hotel is near the airport or downtown. The CTA Blue Line runs from the airport into the city and avoids the road congestion that can affect a taxi.

Tips for travellers from India

The Loop is useful for the Art Institute, Millennium Park and central rail links, while a hotel near O’Hare serves an early flight or suburban appointment. These bases are a substantial distance apart. The CTA Blue Line reaches the airport from downtown, but passengers arriving at Terminal 5 first need the airport connection to the main rail-access area. The airport train and an intercity rail departure from Union Station are separate arrangements.

Air India uses Terminal 5. United domestic flights and international departures use Terminal 1, while many international arrivals are processed through Terminal 5, so an onward connection can involve a building change. In the city, pair the Art Institute with Millennium Park rather than crossing to a distant neighbourhood between them. The Riverwalk offers another central route, while the lakefront extends far beyond the downtown section. The Obama Presidential Center opened to the public in June 2026 in Jackson Park, creating a museum outing on the South Side rather than another stop beside the Loop. Plan that visit as its own district trip. A river architecture cruise also has a specific departure dock, which should be matched to the walking route. Choose between a museum-heavy day and a longer lakefront walk before booking several timed attractions.
