Dubai is easiest to understand by crossing its creek. Al Fahidi preserves lanes and courtyard houses on the Bur Dubai side, while Deira has the Gold and Spice Souks. Farther south, beaches and newer districts change the scale of a day out. For travellers from India, the city also has extensive family and business links. Dubai International Airport sits close to the older centre, and the Red Line connects two of its terminals to the urban rail network.
Bur Dubai makes a practical base for Al Fahidi and creek crossings, with Karama nearby for South Asian restaurants. A Dubai Marina hotel instead favours the waterfront and beach districts, which are a substantial distance from the older souks. The Red Line serves airport Terminals 1 and 3, so accommodation near that line can simplify arrival. Terminal 2 needs a road connection; do not choose a hotel transfer on the assumption that every terminal has its own metro platform.
Use the RTA’s Nol system for metro and bus travel, and check the fare zones for longer trips between the creek and Marina. An abra between Bur Dubai and Deira is part of the old-city route, rather than a substitute for a longer sightseeing cruise. Pair Al Fahidi with the Bur Dubai waterfront, then cross to the Gold and Spice Souks. Downtown Dubai and the Burj Khalifa area deserve another block of time instead of a rushed detour between markets. A flight marketed by Emirates may involve a partner carrier, so the operating airline and terminal on the booking determine where to check in. Dubai World Central is a separate airport southwest of the city, not another terminal at Dubai International.
November to March, usually about 18–30°C, for creek walks and beaches.
By Air: Dubai International Airport (DXB) is about 5 km from the older city centre; allow roughly 15–30 minutes by road. The Metro Red Line serves Terminals 1 and 3, with buses and taxis at the airport.
By Rail: Union and BurJuman are key metro interchanges; DXB Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 stations are on the Red Line.
By Road: RTA buses serve the city; intercity buses connect Dubai with Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

Ahmedabad was founded in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah and grew rich on textiles, which earned it the old nickname of the Manchester of the East. In 2017 its walled city became the first Indian city on the UNESCO World Heritage List, protecting the carved wooden houses of its pol neighbourhoods and mosques such as Sidi Saiyyed. The economy now spans chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cars and finance at nearby GIFT City. Visitors come for the Sabarmati Ashram, the riverfront, stepwells and Gujarati thalis.
For a short stay, Ashram Road and Navrangpura are central and close to the metro, while hotels near Lal Darwaja and Khadia suit a trip built around the old city. The metro's east-west and north-south lines cross at Old High Court, and the Janmarg BRTS buses run on dedicated lanes. Gujarat is a dry state: liquor is sold only against a permit, which visitors from outside the state can obtain at some licensed hotel shops on showing identity documents.
November to February is the season for walking the old city. Uttarayan on 14 January fills the rooftops with kite flyers, and Navratri in September or October brings nine nights of garba across the city and heavy demand for hotels. The municipal heritage walk starts early in the morning from the Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur. Dress modestly at the Jama Masjid and the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque; women are not allowed inside the prayer hall at Sidi Saiyyed.
November to February, with days of about 12-30°C. April to June is very hot, often above 40°C.
By Air: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) is at Hansol, about 10 km north-east of the city centre; allow 25-40 minutes by road. Prepaid taxis, app cabs and AMTS city buses link the airport with the city.
By Rail: Ahmedabad Junction (Kalupur) and Sabarmati are the main stations. Vande Bharat trains run to Mumbai Central and to Veraval, and the Shatabdi connects Ahmedabad with Mumbai.
By Road: The Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway runs south, and NH 48 carries traffic to Mumbai and Rajasthan. GSRTC buses leave from the Geeta Mandir bus station for all parts of Gujarat.
