Ahmedabad was founded in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah and grew rich on textiles, which earned it the old nickname of the Manchester of the East. In 2017 its walled city became the first Indian city on the UNESCO World Heritage List, protecting the carved wooden houses of its pol neighbourhoods and mosques such as Sidi Saiyyed. The economy now spans chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cars and finance at nearby GIFT City. Visitors come for the Sabarmati Ashram, the riverfront, stepwells and Gujarati thalis.
For a short stay, Ashram Road and Navrangpura are central and close to the metro, while hotels near Lal Darwaja and Khadia suit a trip built around the old city. The metro's east-west and north-south lines cross at Old High Court, and the Janmarg BRTS buses run on dedicated lanes. Gujarat is a dry state: liquor is sold only against a permit, which visitors from outside the state can obtain at some licensed hotel shops on showing identity documents.
November to February is the season for walking the old city. Uttarayan on 14 January fills the rooftops with kite flyers, and Navratri in September or October brings nine nights of garba across the city and heavy demand for hotels. The municipal heritage walk starts early in the morning from the Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur. Dress modestly at the Jama Masjid and the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque; women are not allowed inside the prayer hall at Sidi Saiyyed.
November to February, with days of about 12-30°C. April to June is very hot, often above 40°C.

Dubai World Central refers to a developing district around Al Maktoum International Airport rather than a traditional old town. Nearby Expo City Dubai offers exhibition spaces and public areas, while Dubai Marina and Jebel Ali sit farther along the road network. Travellers from India should choose accommodation with the airport location in mind. A hotel described as Dubai may be a long drive from DWC, and a connection at Dubai International Airport uses a separate airport on the other side of the city.
Expo City is the logical area to consider for a stay centred on exhibitions and the former Expo grounds. Dubai Marina suits a waterfront break but adds a road journey to the airport. A downtown hotel serves a different sightseeing plan again, so compare the actual district with the airport location before choosing a room.
Al Wasl Plaza and Expo City's exhibition spaces can form a compact local outing. The Dubai Exhibition Centre is also at Expo City, distinct from the Dubai World Trade Centre venue farther into the city. Event visitors should use the venue name on their booking when selecting accommodation and arranging transport.
There is no metro station inside Al Maktoum Airport. Public buses provide connections to the wider transport network, while a taxi takes passengers directly to the chosen district. For a short stopover, that difference between a direct road trip and an interchange matters more than a generic description of Dubai as well connected.
Keep a Dubai Marina visit separate from the Expo City programme, particularly if luggage is stored at an airport-area hotel. A flight departing Dubai International creates a cross-city transfer from this side of Dubai. The two airports are separate destinations, so the departure airport should determine where the final night is spent.
November to March, about 16–28°C, for outdoor visits near Dubai South.

By Road: Taxis and airport bus routes link DWC with Dubai South and metro interchanges; DXB is across the city.
